More About USEON Meltblown Fabric

The medical mask contains at least 3 layers of non-woven fabric, spunbond + meltblown + spunbond.

Meltblown fabric is the heart of the mask. It is the filter layer in the middle of the mask, which can filter bacteria and prevent the spread of germs. Melt blown fabric is a film made of polypropylene with high melt index, which is composed of many criss-cross fibers stacked in random directions. The fiber diameter ranges from 0.5 to 10 microns, and the fiber diameter is about one-third of the hair diameter.

As shown in the figure below, the gap of the melt blown cloth is so large, and the size of the COVID-19 is very small, about 100 nanometers (0.1 microns), so how does the melt blown cloth filter the virus in the environment?

There are two main reasons:

  1. The virus cannot exist independently. Its transmission routes mainly include secretions and droplets when sneezing. The size of the droplets is about 5 microns. A qualified melt blown fabric can filter things of this size.
  2. The melt blown fabric needs electret treatment. It is a kind of static fiber filter. When the droplets containing viruses are close to the melt blown cloth, they will also be electrostatically adsorbed on the surface and cannot pass through.

Factors Affecting the Quality of Meltblown Fabric

The main factors affecting the quality of melt blown cloth include:

  • Quality of Raw Materials
    Raw materials are crucial. Poor raw materials will affect the uniformity of the meltblown fabric, resulting in a failure to meet the filtering effect standards.

  • Stability of Production Equipment
    The very cheap small production machine is not stable, and the cloth they produce is almost all garbage·

  • Personnel Experience
    Only professional production staff can produce excellent melt-blown cloth.

“True and false” melt blown fabrics are more difficult to identify and require professional testing.

To ensure that each of our rolls of cloth can meet high standards, we will take a piece of cloth from the production line for inspection every half an hour.
